UFC Vegas 11 medical suspensions: Tyron Woodley, 3 other fighters face potential 6-month layoffs

Tyron Woodley is still feeling the sting from his fifth-round TKO loss to Colby Covington this past weekend at UFC Vegas 11. He might be forced into a lengthy layoff due to the injuries suffered in that fight.

The former UFC welterweight champion was forced to stop the contest after he suffered a broken rib in the final round after Covington had already dominated the majority of the fight. It was a disappointing end for Woodley, who not only lost to a longtime rival but he also dropped his third straight fight.

In the aftermath of that injury, Woodley revealed through an X-ray that he did suffer a broken rib during the fight, which is what could potentially keep him sidelined for several months.

On Tuesday, the Nevada Athletic Commission issued the medical suspensions from the card with Woodley facing a possible six-moth term due to the rib injury from the fight. Woodley will need his injuries cleared by an orthopedic doctor, or he’ll be forced to sit out until March 19, 2021. At minimum, Woodley will not be allowed to compete until after Nov. 4 at the earliest.

Meanwhile, co-main event fighter Niko Price is facing a similar term after he was handed a potential six-month suspension due to a right hand injury from his fight against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. Price has to get his right hand X-rayed, and if the results come back positive, he must have an orthopedic doctor clear him, or he’ll be sidelined until March 19, 2021.
